No sooner do we send out a letter, the whole situation changes. You won’t be seeing any more paper mail on this.
We are officially suspending all non-essential gatherings, including DOGs, Sunday School, High School Youth, and other Bible studies and group gatherings at SHLC for the rest of March. During this time we plan to develop online sessions and in-home resources to share with our kids and families, as the CDC and the medical community are advising to restrict gatherings through April.
This also means that our big celebrations, like First Communion, Holy Week, Easter and Confirmation, will in all likelihood be pushed back into May. Our hope is to make May the new April.
We are also limiting our worship to livestream only, starting this Wednesday. We will stream our 7 pm service on the remaining three Wednesdays in Lent. We will also stream the Sunday morning 8 a.m. traditional service, and the 9:30 a.m. REACH service each Sunday. We will not have a Wednesday morning service in Lent, though we are planning to stream the message/devotion at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. We also will not have a Saturday night nor a 10:45 Sunday service during this time.
To summarize, here is our temporary Facebook livestream worship schedule:
Wednesdays (March 18, 25; April 1): 7 pm
Sundays: 8 am traditional, 9:30 am REACH
Two critical elements of our mission and ministry for all of us to keep in mind and in prayer:
I wish it hadn’t come to this. I believe we all prefer to live by faith rather than fear, and this time in our lives is no different. I know that we are always in God’s loving hands, and there is not a better place to be. He will bless us in ways as yet unseen. We also have to love our neighbor enough to take these temporary steps to help preserve life and health for the most vulnerable around us. The vast majority of us will be just fine, and nothing will happen to us. But God’s expectation of us is to look to the interests of others before our own (Philippians 2:1-5).
None of this is easy. Please keep all our leaders in prayer, as these difficult decisions include all sorts of trap doors. Do not let Satan tempt you to look down on anyone, nor to lead you to think you do not need Christ, His means of grace, or His Church. When we come back together again in the weeks ahead, we will let loose with the greatest celebration of joy His Church on Earth can muster!
God reaches us…
In His Love,
