LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry

Comfort Dogs are a bridge for compassionate ministry, opening doors for conversation about faith and creating opportunities to share the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ. Comfort Dogs serve every day in the community in which they are placed and are deployed in times of disaster and crisis to bring comfort to all those affected, including first responders and the volunteers who serve them. Comfort dogs visit those at church, in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, rehabilitation centers, grief centers or anywhere else their presence is needed. There are over 100 LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs around the country and during a crisis situation, Comfort Dogs may be deployed to bring comfort to a hurting community. The Comfort Dog Ministry never charges those we serve and is completely supported by donations.

Meet Samaria, Comfort Dog

Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."" Luke 10:36-37

Samaria joined Shepherd of the Hills in Dec. of 2023, and was officially installed in Feb. 2024. Samaria has spent an impressive 2,000+ hours in high-level training, passed the AKC Good Citizenship Test and is certified by Lutheran Church Charities. Both Samaria and her team of handlers receive ongoing support, coaching and training.

Samaria is also part of the LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry, serving the unique needs of our military, veterans and their families. Samaria works alongside her certified Kare 9 handler, Brian, who is an Air Force veteran with over 20 years of service. Together, Samaria and Brian visit many places including VFWs, VA Hospitals, home-bound veterans, Old Glory Honor Flights, and Yellow Ribbon Ceremonies.
