Grand Canyon: Evolution's Work or God's Work

We (Pastor Chad and his family) went to the Grand Canyon after Christmas. It was a very long drive. Good thing my kids are old enough (20, 17, and 14) to handle many long hours in the car. When we got there and looked over the south rim at the canyon we responded like most people.
Wow!!!! It is so majestic. So huge. So much bigger than any picture can ever portray. We spent four full days at the canyon stopping at virtually every lookout on the south rim and learning about the historic buildings on that rim, the early tourism and, of course, the theories of how that huge canyon was formed. As a Christian, I and many other creationists see things much differently there.

At every overlook, you´ll see thick, uniform rock layers that extend as far as the eye can see. Every one of these layers have fossils in them. Fossils are formed when animals are buried quickly, giving testimony to the layers being laid down in rapid succession during, or shortly after, the global Flood. Fossils are not created when they are buried slowly because the animal carcass would deteriorate and not create a clear fossil.
You can also find folded rock layers, several hundred feet in height. The fact that the layers could bend without breaking indicates that they were laid down quickly and then folded while still soft, not after millions of years.    Plus, the fossils embedded in the limestone walls are thousands of feet above sea level, indicating that ocean waters rose up over the continents during the Flood, depositing ocean creatures on the continent.

At the Desert View overlook, where the photo to the right was taken, you can see several different kinds of evidences for the Flood. We find fossils of sea creatures in several layers of Grand Canyon (such as the Kaibab Limestone), over a mile above sea level. Ocean waters must have carried them onto the continent during the Flood.

Even from a great distance away, you can see the line where the Flood waters first advanced onto the continent, depositing sand and other sediments. This boundary, called the Great Unconformity, marks where the series of flat flood layers begins. Geologists do not have a good explanation for this great unconformity because it’s missing thousands of years of layering.

Several rock layers at Grand Canyon, such as the yellow Tapeats Sandstone, can be traced across the entire U.S. and even across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe and the Middle East. It’s striking evidence of a global Flood.

Mount Saint Helens’ explosion in 1980 created canyons and even what is called a “Little Grand Canyon” in weeks instead of millions of years.

Psalm 65 says: “You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, 6 who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. 8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. 10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops.”

God is a creator God and He proclaims His glory through His creation.

Praise His Name! Pastor Chad
